I was wondering what color to drybrush. I was worried dark gray would make it look older, but I think dark brown would probably work well.

      Hmmmm....

For something like that, I'd use a light grey VERY thinly brushed on. If you do it too heavy it'll look like grey hair, but if you get it just right it'll look like hilights.

Oh yes. For a afro of this size, only the tops of the ears should be covered.

The entire hairline (Forelock, temples, ears and nape.) should be brought up.

Trying to trim off the milliput to uncover the ears without...actually...cutting them off.

Okay, so I have literally trimmed as much milliput off of this head as I can without hitting the wooden ball beneath it.

Exposed ears, more forehead, space for his eyebrows.

As one of the black people on this forum, this caught my attention right away. He needs more of a hairline in the back. That is to say, his afro needs to come a little lower in back. No one's hairline back there stops parallel to their ears.

I may have gotten out of control with the back of the neck. It was actually a lot lower, but I brought it up. I can probably lower it back down. I really appreciate everyone's input on this guy. I'd hate to do it wrong. A lot of the urban vinyl figures I've seen basically just have a ball for the afro. I really like this character and want to make him great.

Much better! How about giving him some long sideburns for that 70s mod look?

Awesome idea! I have to get some more milliput! Off to HObby Lobby!
