Robotman head sculpt - the start of my Mego Doom Patrol

This is one of the few scratch sculpts I've attempted, but I'm really happy with how he turned out. Right now it's just cured clay, and I had to sand some of the edges, so the texture looks kind of funny. I'll start a mold tomorrow so I'll have a resin copy to put on the actual custom.

Thanks! That's exactly the style I was going for. I've been reading the Silver Age archives and really like this team. I had the book open to use as reference.

Great job especially the mouth and likeness. I've been reading the Silver Age reprints and this is spot on.

Cliff is looking very good so far. I'm a big fan of the Doom Patrol, I'm looking forward to seeing the figures as they come together, Amy.

                looks great!

Mina is the world's first Paranormal Petsitter in the new middle-grade book series by Gary Buettner, MONSTER PETS, coming in FALL 2014 from EMBY KIDS. Spooky adventure that's perfect reading for kids 8-12

Oddly, you'd think making a guy look like his head was wrapped in bandages would be fairly simple. I thought about taking a generic head and wrapping it, but Premiani's Negative Man still had fairly distinct features. He's coming along, but much more slowly than Cliff.

Amy, what might help when you do Negative Man is to get a Clay Extruder at an art store. It's a metal tube like a syringe. You load some sculpey or clay into it, (leave some room for air or it will be difficult to push down), and on the tip you screw on different patterns. You can put a tip on it that will give you flattened, ribbon-like clay and you can carefully wrap it around a mego head like miniature bandages.

That's a neat tool John, but my main problem is getting the likeness that I want under the bandages.

I used Johnson and johnson badage tape cut into thin strips, it sticks down really well and still shows the contours underneath. One of these days I do pics of my Unknown Soldier custom to show you.

I'm trying something tonight, based on something I read about the making of paper mâché ventriloquist dummies. I exaggerated the contrast in all the details - deep hollows around the features, basically. I think I'm going to cure what I have so far, then experiment with the badges. I was originally dead set against wrapping the head with anything, but I can see that I'm not going to get the look I want using my previous method.

Tbolt - I tried the bandages last night. I'm pretty sure they're the same ones you mentioned. I'll post pics when I can upload them to photobucket. I kind of like it, but I might try something thinner. I'm going to cast it in white resin, and possibly use black or gray to bring out the details.

Might as well get this thread moving again. Here are the sculpts for Elastigirl and Negative Man.
