    Hawkman - which wings?

I've been trying to finish up this Superfriends Hawkman. Austin made me this incredible Hawkman head - it's truly beautiful - and the body is a Doc Mego swivel arm version. I just can't decide which wings to use. I've posted pics of the two versions of wings I'm debating using. Feel free to let me know which you think would work the best and maybe what Mego would've done.

The first set of wings is from Dr. Mego. The Doc foam wings have some great depth and look realistic. The only problem is that they don't open and close.

The next wings are my creation and are cut out of acrylic plastic. I designed a feather pattern on paper and spraymounted it onto the acrylic - like a sticker. The gold rivet is temporary until I find a silver one. I like the look of the wings and how they swivel out to fly, but I'm unsure about the flatness of them when attached to the body.

I like your wings. I'd just mount them lower on his body and perhaps hid the pins with your sticker stuff. Some Archangel ones would be killer.

This is mine. I like the foam wings for the same reason you mentioned. You could very carefully cut the foam wings through the center and make a pin, similar to your design. Best of both worlds.

The foam wings are perfect! Anything else don't look right (not bagging on your design...looks cool) I have a white set on my Angel figure also. Easy to attach to a Mego.
Jerry68, I have a kick *** mace that would look a lot better with that Hawkman. It's big and bulky. PM me if you want it.

That Hawkman is awesome Mike! Did you do the outfit? I think it will look great either way, but i'm leaning more toward the foam because of the depth. If you could fashion a way to have them open and close, i think you would have a winner!

Personally I like the foam wings. Their shape and design go well with the enlarged Superpowers Hawkman head.
Since you are going for a Filmation look, are you considering a "Skreel" and green with red talons 'Hawk-Claw' for his right hand?

I like the "action feature" of the riveted wings. If you are worried about the flatness, could you heat them and apply a little bend to them? (Right now I'm having a flashback of making a plastic picture frame in 8th grade shop class...)

                    Very cool Hawkman Jerry68.

Insipired by Flatt in the 1990s, I made a Hawkman with balsa wood wings with a similar joint like the second pair, but glued actual feathers from Hobby Lobby on the balsa wood. It looked OK, but someone with actual talent could probably make something really cool with a similar process.

Thanks for the great comments and ideas. I've got a second head ordered from Austin, so I'm going to make one Hawkman with the foam wings (cut apart for movement) and another with the acrylic wings. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Mike, sorry if I was off on the direction you are going for. 'Superfriends' not Filmation. Reading too many different Hawkman posts. Got a little confused.
I know this has nothing to do with the Superfriends design, but something inside me wonders how he would look with some Conan bracelets?

                            Hawkman - which wings?

What an incredible job you did with that awesome looking Hawkman. Great concept with your own wing design. Is there anyway that your wing design can sit abit lower on his back? 5 Stars

I really dig the folding wings. They have a really great retro feel to them.
