While making an attempt at some cleaning/organizing in my "customizing"/junk room(yeah right),i found this glob of silicone.
I realized this was my very First attempt at sculpting a head and "molding" that head in Feb.09. I did everything WRONG,from using "regular" nonhardening clay for the head sculpt and the wrong type silicone to mold it.I remember the silicone taking days to dry and i wasn't even sure if it was completely dry inside. I pretty much decided it was a lost cause and put it in a box and forgot about it until last night when i rediscovered it.I thought it would be fun to see what was under the glob after almost 2 1/2 years
Since then the computer i was using had a hard drive failure and i lost all my pictures, this sculpt included and really had no idea any more what it looked like.I cut into the silicone and removed the sculpt,it crumbled away as i did. Then i had to clean the clay residue out of it which took me about an hour and i really never got all of it out.I used tape to hold the mold together and poured resin into it.The first cast looked like crap full of air pockets where it had cleaned most of the remaining clay out.I tried again and let it sit a little longer. When i removed it, the resin was wanting to stick to the mold and the mold was destroyed in the process. This is the cast as it came out the second and last time.
I cleaned a little excess resin out of the one eye and threw some paint on him and here he is,my first sculpt.
The moral to anybody that is thinking about sculpting, customizing etc,READ all the tutorials/articles you can and LEARN before plunging in and making alot of unnesssary mistakes like me.
This cast would have looked alot better had i done things the right way and saved me alot of time and headaches.I will clean the cast up and finish it someday, just so i have my First.
