Working on the Sandman's gas gun

I decided to give it a try today, instead of modifying another accessory that wasn't quite what I wanted. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but will let it sit so I can re-examine it for any little details I feel like adding. Then I'll cure the Sculpy and start making a mold. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Looks good, but I think the barrel should be a bit longer

How much longer do you think? I'm using a scan from the Matt Wagner series as reference.

That's actually very similar to the artwork I'm using. The thing is, my sense of space isn't the best. I might have to measure it and use ratios to get it right, rather than trying to eyeball it.

You're not off by far, just slightly. I think measuring the artwork is the best way to go

I didn't add a lot of length, it was less than .25". But here it is now

A professor once told me if you take the original image , enlarge it (or shrink )on paper to what you need and then use calipers you cant go wrong.

I REALLY love the Legos. I saw a reusable mold set I've been wanting and then I see this : Brilliant!
I loved Sandman too, looking forward to seeing him finished.

The Legos serve as a mold box, something I learned about way back when I first started customizing. I've never done a lot of sculpting or molding, so I've pretty much been using the same one for ages. Usually, I make a mold of the uncured Sculpy, but I worked really hard on this sculpt and didn't want to risk damaging it. I also didn't want to heat up the kitchen with the oven, so I decided to use the bag-n-boil method. I put the sculpt(still in the mold box) into a ziplock bag and placed that in hot water until the Sculpy cured. The good news is, the mold box kept the sculpt from sagging or bending. The bad news is, most of the Legos are warped and now unusable. Just thought I'd share that experience, for what it's worth.

I haven't had much time to work on this for a while, but I now have a master copy of the gas gun almost finished. I wasn't too confident in sculpting the whole thing as a complete piece, and that's why half of it was sculpted in the mold box(the pictures I posted before). I had myself convinced that there was a way to mold one half, then make a mirrored piece, then glue them together. Obviously, that doesn't work with something shaped like this. So to avoid wasting what I had so far, I cast the half in resin:

I used that to sculpt the details onto the other side using Magicsculpt. That way I at least have the hardened piece to add onto, without worrying about losing details when I work on the other side. It's not perfectly symmetrucal, but I think it's close enough. Now I just have to mold and cast this:
