    Obsessed with painting heads!

So This started really in the Market place, A while back I made a Chris Reeve Clark Kent/Superman and since I just don't have the room for him so I was going to sell him, then I found my old Sinestro figure I made when I first stated customizing and I figured hey I'll put these fellas up for sale and see if I can bring some more funds for more customizing and such, so I tried some new stuff out and I was really happy with how it turned out, I have never really tried much when it came to painting heads, I figured flat premixed colors were fine, I now have a much greater respect for all these fine artists out here who knew what I am just figuring out now. So any how I have been collecting resin heads for a long time thinking "one day I'll really learn how to paint these guys up and make some awesome customs!" well I am now confident in my painting skills and I feel like I lean something new with each job I finish. Now in some cases I still don;t know that I will be finishing these customs so after I paint them I may well offer then for sale. I will try my best to note where I got the heads from originally when I post them. I started this project a little over a week ago and here is what I have done to date:

Sinestro The head came from Brian Leiter (So did the suit)

Chris Reeve Superman, Head from BK

Heath Ledger Joker, Head from BK

Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, Head from reproheads

Stand "the Man" Lee, head from BK

    Zombie Wolverine, Head from BK

Batman Dead End, Head by Sandy Collora

Guardian of the Universe from Green Lantern, head from reproheads

    Captain Planet, head from reproheads

    Hellboy, head from reproheads

    Indiana Jones, Head from reproheads

I still have more to paint so I'll post em as they come

I would be obsessed if I painted that well. Great work. I never thought about it before but captain planet has a mullet!

Having just completed my first Mego scale head repaint I thought I'd take a look at your work before I embarrassed myself . Considering how darned small these heads are I think you're kicking butt !

I don't do much resin head painting , usually repainting vinyl heads and the occasional OOAK sculpey head I do myself . I would offer the suggestion that you do a bit more prep work using sandpaper and abrasive films just to smooth the casts out . It's really boring and tedious work but can really enhance a paint job simply by making the surface smooth - which will make your paints look that much better .

I have a whole lot of difficulty with eyes myself , but have gotten around that by using colored pencils to block in the eyes before I begin laying down my washes . I tend to do a lot of work with colored pencils on my repaints - It's kinda like a coloring book the hard part is staying within the lines !

I'm glad you're obsessed with painting heads - I haven't reached that stage yet ; I'll do it when I have to , but generally only out of necessity .

Things to contemplate as you go ahead with your projects - colored pencils and pastels can greatly make your work easier , a bit easier than washes to achieve subtle gradations and shading . Sometimes just by changing the medium you can really make a head pop .

Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff - your work could become contagious !!

Really enjoying what you have done so far with the mego scale heads. I also just read that you are having a wee bit an issue with the eyes, I do alot of 1/6 and 3-3/4" figures and have done a tutorial for eyes for 1/6 figures but I also use it on all my different scale figs.

here is the link http://www.figurerealm.com/viewcustomtutorial.php?id=2 if you need any help with something just drop me an email at [email protected].

@cbgorby Thanks for the advice I will mix it up with my next project! I am intrigued by the colored pencil idea so I'll have to give it a try!

@ussapache I dig your eye method, my biggest problem is more the fact I can't seem to get the brush to do what I want it to, but I do like your methods thanks a bunch for posting them!

@everyone thanks again for all the love I really enjoy having a place where I can show my work and have any one appreciate it, let alone all you talented wonderful folks out there
