    Lone Ranger Input?

I'm almost done with a Lone Ranger custom, but I'm looking for some thoughts on one matter: I'm planning on doing a painted mask, but I'm a little torn on which style:

    Black & White ep style:

    Color ep style:

My initial reaction is to go with the color ep style, as it seems to be the look most action figures, licensed items, and promotional materials go with. On the other hand, the B&W style is a little different, just as valid, and was used in a lot more episodes.

Any input to help me decide?

    Thanks!

Personally I like the color version. My 2 cents.

Color is what you see more of, as you mentioned.

I guess if you're more into the other style, try that. You could always trim it down to the color style if you wanted, but you can't make the other the original style.

        Lone Ranger Input?

Does it have to be painted on?

I think that TJ's Toys sells a domino mask that fits Mego figures.

What head are you going to use?

Personally, I think that Captain Kirk head would work great for an LR custom.

The Black and White version was played by John Hart; my personal favorite LR persona.
When Clayton Moore left The Lone Ranger show, John Hart was selected out of many actors to become The Masked Rider of the plains from 1952 to 1954 (for 52 episodes). John Hart even had his own fiery horse, Silver #2, which he trained. With the exception of Klinton Spilsbury, who played the title role in the 1981 big screen flop "The Legend of the Lone Ranger," Hart is the last in a long line of men who donned the mask since the character debuted on WXYZ radio in Detroit on Jan. 30, 1933. After the show ended in 1957, John Hart made two cameo appearances as the Lone Ranger on television, once on an episode of "Happy Days" in the 1970s and later in 1981 on "The Greatest American Hero."

So the more common color photo is of Clayton Moore; the man who is primarily associated with Lone Ranger. My personal preference is John Hart.

Why not have both? If you really cannot decide on which way you want to go color or non color I would do one of each. I think that you will find the majority of the peeps here will be suggesting color though including myself.

I look forward to seeing your Lone Ranger custom when you ultimately decide on finishing him.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

Captain Action had 2 versions, red shirt and black pants and the TV blue. I prefer the blue.

                  Thanks, guys!

                  So, to answer some questions:

I wanted to go with a painted look to make the custom as mego-y as possible (except for those first Batman and Robin figs, I think every masked figure had a painted-on mask).

I'm using a ST Scotty head (I like the shape of the jaw and mouth and his expression). Here's some manips I did of the figure with each of the mask styles -- Any reactions?

Nailed!!! I like it. Excellent selection in the head chosen. Incidentally, great concept (to add permanent mask). Keep up the good work,...your Lone Ranger is gonna ROCK!!!

I like the first photo (of your figure) the best. That really looks like the classic Ranger!

I'm with you totally on this. It's what I think of automatically when I think of the character.

Oh, the blue is a given . . . it's the style of mask (covering or not covering the nose) that I'm debating/looking for input on.

                            Oh. In that case; not.

Makes him look like he's got Jimmy Durante's nose or something.

I like the second look. that is, the one that covers the nose.
