I finally got started today on my first custom....... the Creature from the Black Lagoon! He's the one we all know so well. When i saw the one mikeoz did, i just had to try one. I picked up the resin casts from him along with the awesome outfit he had done. I do want to say one thing..... I'm very excited about attempting my first "custom" but all the credit goes to Mike on this one
. I'm just painting, sewing, and assembling. I bought a Doc Mego green body, rounded up some acrylic paints, primer, Mod Podge, brushes, sand paper, sculpey and off i went.
Today i got all the pieces cleaned up and fitted into place. Had to cut, sand and re-work the neck plug. I shaped it into a ball more or less. It is just a touch larger than the neck hole at this point and sort of snugly sitting in place. I didn't want to pop it in yet in case it didn't want to come out to be painted.
I do have a question..... probably one of many to come
. When i tapped the wrist and ankle pins out with a nail set, they were pretty much destoyed despite my efforts to be careful. One of them is squished and distorted and the other three flat out broke in half. Does anyone have some pointers on what i can use as a substitute when i go to assemble this guy? I appreciate any and all pointers that ya'll can give me, not only about how in the future not to destroy the pins when removing them but on the process overall as well. Thanks!
