    Head in a Jar

I'm planning a group of customs that includes a head kept alive in a jar. The question is, what do I use to fill the dome that would give it a liquid appearance? Silicone? Two part epoxy? I want the head to look like its floating inside, with a few tubes coming from the neck to connect to life support.

You could use that clear resin. I have some I just have never used it. They use it for stuff like paperweights and, uh, I'm sure it has other uses.

Clear resin might work but you may have to pour it in 2 parts and you may get a seam line.

I tried something similar ( a brain in a jar ) for my Morbius monster using Humbrol clear fix but to make it appear to be floating i had to pour it in 2 parts and every time i did it the first pouring re-liquified.

That sounds like your best bet; although if it's hooked up to tubes and wires you could probably set it up IN the jar suspended on rigid wires and fill with clear resin in one go.

I'd make two heads though. Some of those clear resins are pretty harsh and might eat through your paint job a bit.

If you go to Michael's or JoAnn's, they have this weird plastic that they use for fake water in flowers. It hardens after 24 hours, and you could definitely float the head in that...It's whatever manufacturers use for fake water when they sell those plastic flower arrangements in vases.

I really don't mind the air bubbles, since I figure there ought to be some. If this works, I want to do Hitler from "They Saved Hitler's Brain". That'll be an accessory for my Captain America line.

Along the lines of what Jessica said, I know the Model Train suppliers have some fake water stuff they use for creeks and rivers. It hardens and looks pretty good. Some of the resins turn kind of yellow if I am not mistaken.

OK, attempt one bombed out. I hope I can get the head out and reuse the dome. I tried a two part epoxy from WalMart it turned really yellow and not very see thru.

You could use the stuff they sell at craft stores to make gel candles. I think they have a clear variety. I was thinking of something like this: A.C. Moore - Gelly Candle Wax 25 Ounces-Clear

                      Hmmmm....

That fake water stuff they use on railroads is really good. I've used it before. But I find it's a good idea to mix in a few extra drops of hardener, and put it outside to harden; it has a freaky-strong smell.

Fill it with future (johnsons) klear...it will take an age to set but it will be clear...I use it for water quite often...do a test first though as if you make a mistake it'll be a git to get the head out again.
