Hmmmm....
Y'know, if you aren't intending to put a Mego body in there you COULD use a wire frame for the inside. Attach it to the feet and hands, extend the neck so the top of the body is resting/attached to it, build the rest over that. Use heavy gauge phone wire or somesuch, and twist two or three strands together.
