    Mighty Putty

Yep, I've fallen for another product from that Oxy-Clean guy. Heck, Oxy has done a lot for my Mego collection, so I figured I'd give this stuff a try. Has anyone else used it before? I was mostly interested in it because I know some other epoxies have to be measured and mixed. This stuff has two colored sections and you squish them together to activate them. It was $10 for 3 2-oz tubes. How does that compare to the prices of other brands? I've never used epoxy before, so I don't have much to compare it with, but I will post my impressions after I give it a try.
    Note:Added a bunch of pics.

I was wondering about that stuff, thanks for being the guinea pig. My biggest question is the working time with it.

      From the instructions:
"Average mixing time is 2 minutes.
After 30-40 minutes the epoxy will harden and form a tenacious bond.
After just 60 minutes many items are able to be put back into service."

Hmm, so it might be good for little quickie details.

I would recommend it for quickie details on hard plastic or resin heads. Once cured, this stuff is rock hard, so I don't think it would be good to add to original/rubber heads. I took a bunch of pics, but probably won't get to load them till tomorrow. I attempted to add a raised mask to a junk resin head.

It is nice to have the ratio pretty much taken care of - just cut a piece big enough for what you want and start kneading it, in your fingers or a clean hard surface.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the plastic casing is the smell. It's kind of like plastic mixed with sulphur, and gets a tad stronger as you start to activate the stuff by squishing it together. You might want to do this with a window open if you have a small work space. I also would keep it off any surface where you might sit food. There are warnings on the box about skin reactions and it came with a latex glove. I have sensitive skin, so I tried to be safe and wear the glove, but it was really hard to knead the epoxy with it on, so I took it off. I'm happy to report that nothing has fallen off as of yet. I don't know if anyone might have a reaction to it or not. I washed my hands immediately afterward, just in case.
Note - the directions say to roughen up the surface you're applying the epoxy to, but I didn't do that with the resin head I used. Don't know if it would make any difference or not.

The epoxy is ready when it's a very light gray/green, almost white. When sculpting with it, you have to work kind of fast. It started to cure and get stiff within 10-15 minutes of activating it. According to the directions you can also smooth the surface of the piece you're working on with a small amount of water. I didn't do this - just waited to sand it. I had trouble getting my details just right, so the mask didn't turn out quite the way I wanted it. However, it's easy to sand, drill etc, so you could possibly dremel details into it. I might try that later if I get a chance. By the time 30 minutes had passed, the epoxy had pretty much set. It turns white and has the consistency of stone. I hit the leftover piece with a hammer and a screwdriver and it doesn't seem to have done any damage. I smacked the head on my desk as well as tried to pry the mask off. The stuff seems pretty durable.

After I let the head sit for an hour, I sanded the rough spots and painted the mask. No problems there. Like I said, I didn't get the mask exactly like I wanted, and I didn't spend too much time painting. This is just for an example, so sorry the paint is just kind of slapped on.

I don't think the stuff is too bad overall. $10 seems like an ok price for it. I would use it for masks, as long as they don't have too much detail, horns, bat-ears, and that kind of stuff. It might work in a push mold, as long as you can pop it out of the mold before it cures. Otherwise, it probably won't come out unless you prepare it with a lot of mold release. It would also be good to fill in holes in resin pieces if you end up with bubbles.

It would work in a push mold made with the sculpy mold stuff, its flexable, so you can bend it to get the part out.

I was thinking of buying some of that Stuff Myself. It seems very similar to what I use for Sculpting Masks on...Epoxy Tape(Putty), by Citadel Colour.

Their website is Mighty Putty Manufacturer's Official Website. If you try the online order form, the only country in the pulldown menu is United States. There's a note toward the bottom of the page that says they can't deliver outside the continental US. Just in case you want to try, their customer service number is 1800-340-3418. It says they're open from 9am-4pm EST, Monday through Friday. Do you have stores like Target, or anything that handles "As Seen on TV" items?

Yeah, it should work as long as you remove it before it cures completely. Once it does that, it forms some kind of seal with what it's stuck to.

Thank you very much Del! We do have Target but they are quite small and don't have craft stuff like that. I think I will ask one of my friends to forward some on to me. Thanks again, that was very sweet of you to look up that up for me and I really appreciate it.

No, I didn't. I don't have any push molds handy. The way the stuff bonds to surfaces, I don't want to use store-bought molds. That will have to wait till I have one made from sculpy or something. I would try mold release to wet it instead of water, because you can use it to plaster over leaky pipes and stuff.

Cat, do the Targets where you live have "As Seen on TV" sections? That's where I got mine.
