Making a V neck in a body suit

Ok, so I want to take a Mego style jump suit and add a v neck. My first attempt at this was a complete failure. Any advice as to how not to make it run or look sloppy?

Anytime I've done a V neck, usually on a dress like my Lara, I make the outfit whole, turn it inside out and mark where I want it to plunge to, cut straight from the neck to just above the mark I made, fold the pieces and glue them and at the bottom point of the V I glue a small piece of fabric to keep it cut from tearing/pulling. Cut off the excess of the pieces that are folded to clean up the line of he plunge. Hope this helps or gives some ideas.

so let's say you are taking a Captain Marvel red suit, and you want to create an opening 1 inch down from the existing collar?
So What I would do is turn the suit inside out (1), cut the one inch line from the collar,(2) and then fold back the cut "flaps"
back about 1/4 inch and pin it ( straight pin)(3). Then using the handy dandy sewing machine, make a stitch on each flap to give it a
1/8 inch sew line, and then at the point of the "V" sew a small stitch across.(4)

Here is an illo showing what I'm talking about.

I use a small amount Fabri Tac, I found liquid stitch can soak through and show from the outside.

Yeah,I always use fabric glue as well unless I'm hand stitching then I'll go the other way.
              Glueing is way faster.

^I like fusible products, too. You just have to be cautious with synthetics.
