In all fairness to Lonnie, this doesn't seem to be a precise process and the CTVT Al and Bud heads are a different plastic than the current FTC heads. Luckily, I'm sure a replacement Adams' Batman head is available from FTC.

I wonder how a naptha soak would work on the current FTC heads?

I left it in the acetone for about an hour. It was a first attempt. It fell apart when I touched it. It looked like it was working great until I disturbed it.
66 Batgirl is Caucasian-colored. All paint came off instantly in soak #1. I do a 1 hour soak, 2-3 days dry; re-soak on & off for up to 2 weeks (re: I shrank comicbook Alfred, Bizarro, & 66 Robin with thus formula). I'm currently on soak # 3 for Batgirl,& finally her head is smaller than the first 66 Batman head (because it started out the same size as his). I successfully shrank 66 Robin; I'm using 66 Batman & shrunken 66 Robin for comparative scales. I'm aiming to get her head down to Yvonne Craig's proper scale...gosh, I really hope this head doesn't explode. I'm super careful when I handle the head-shrinks,& always rinse in mild soap (like Dawn) & cold water.

The Naphtha paint thinner works flawlessly on the FTC heads guys. To all the head shrinkers: Put the acetone down!! The Naphtha paint thinner works slower, but it doesn't destroy the paint job, and it certainly doesn't destroy the head. All it does is shrink the FTC watermelon noggins down to a respectable scale. The only side-effect is that the head becomes rock hard. For medium scale shrinking, I leave them in a jar for two to three weeks, undisturbed. For the real melons, like the modern Batman head, Nightwing, and the recent Lex Luthor, I've left them in for a month. Now they're perfectly in scale.
PS: I couldn't find Naphtha paint thinner at the local Home Depot, so I purchased it on Amazon. If you plug in: VM&P NAPTHA QT, it should pop right up for $14.95.

I've just never left a head in to soak for an hour, I forgot a Hasbro head one time and it split into pieces. I just keep checking until they swell up then take them out. I've currently got a Dragon head that I got down to 9 inch scale for a certain skull wearing vigilante.

Oh gosh, I hear you!! My 12" Hulk and 9" Flash Gordon completely exploded on me. Now, I always keep the head upside down, & squeeze it 2x beneath the acetone line in the *Small* glass(with top) jar. I squeeze it to ensure the head's inner space has no air-bubbles. I immerse a bamboo stick measured at just-under the same length of the jar, that I keep inside the head's centre & neck. This seems to hold the head in place, & makes it easier to pick up /out of the bottle after the process. I *always* set an alarm, to 30-60 min's, depending on my goal.

I'm fascinated with the idea of trying this, considering FTC's scale issues.

Here's a picture of the two Robin heads I shrunk, between a Lion Rock head and an regular Robin head.
The shrunk head with the mask still on, was in acetone twice. Once for an hour, and the second soak was for over 24 hours. It didn't shrink enough the first time, so I soaked it for over a day the second time.

Hi Bat, I have a solid resin casting of a Monogram resculpt Aurora head with neck-plug. Ready to paint and attach. Would you like one as a replacement head?

I logged unto the Mego forum to amuse myself with my coffee, and the first post that caught my eye was this one. Imagine my reaction when I saw the above image on THE BAT's post!
A very long time ago I read a post on this forum of how someone used Naphtha paint thinner instead of acetone to shrink a head. The results were profoundly slower (a month's time), but the goo successfully shrank the heads without stripping the paint. Naturally this intrigued me, as acetone dissolves all the paint off the head, and my repainting are a bit suspect. I've never read anything else about it since. In any regard, I got some off Amazon, and started experimenting a year ago. I did a few Robin heads and got them down to Titans size, and that was about it...until FTC started producing heads with a touch of hydrocephalus. The new Batman head is particularly watermelon-esque. So far I've shrunk to normal size Nightwing, Batman, Ras Al Ghul, the Flash, First Appearance Robin(boy, that head was big), as well as some bald original Mego Daisy Duke heads. They're all normal looking now. The only side effect is they come out hard as a rock. However, with a little heat from a blow-dryer, they instantly become soft and pliable, for just long enough to squeeze them unto a body before they harden again. As a finishing touch, I blow-dry the head once it's on the body, this evens out the head, removing any squish marks my fingers left behind from jamming it into the neck-hole!

-I would have posted this all sooner, but in fact, I rarely post anything for fear that someone is going to ask me to post pictures, and I've never been able to figure out how to do that. (I'm just barely handling the basic mechanics of modern living, as it is). If someone would like to pm me simple directions, I'd be happy to oblige.
                        That was me!
I actually just put an FTC head in Naptha, and logged in to the Museum to look up my old thread:
I threw a zombie Bo Duke head into a cup of Naptha for at least 12 hours. He is now smaller, and still has whatever paint he still had when I threw him in to soak. His head is as hard as a rock though, but the paint is there! Is this a solution for Steve Austin, Starbuck, Alfred, and Bizarro??? Maybe, but I am going to test it

Wow! I don't have that kind of patience LOL!

I bought this FTC hero head just to shrink it. I submerged it for 24 hours, and then 24 hours out. Nothing. Then 48 hours, and 24 out. Nothing.
I should have gone straight through but I need this head shrunk down now, not in January!

Here's the awful balloon head next to the awesomely sized Cast-A-Way hero head:

He went back for another dunk into fresh Naptha just now.
I may have to just paint this CAW head so I can finish my project, and use this blue guy later on.
                            I can't wait a month.
