For Mego and CTVT bodies I usually do a combo of filing down the neck plug, widening the neck hole. For Doc Mego bods, or my own custom torsos there's no give, so I usually sand the plug right down so thsi it fits into the neck hole with no portrubrances to hold it in. Then I screw a tiny eyebolt into the bottom, and use elasticized string to tie the neck bolt off to the hip piece.
