best ideas for making a Supes for the kids

I've been thinking about trying to make a Superman that would be solely for my kids to play with. I figured I can get most of the Doc Mego stuff to put together, but my question would be, are there Superman heads out there that look like the original Mego and would be of a material that my kids wouldn't chip up or should I look for an old head/body to pop in? or is that taboo to use original pieces for kids when they are at an age that keeping things nice is difficult?

I'm pretty sure that Doc Mego offers a reproduction Superman head that is injection-molded in vinyl and made in China (EXACTLY like the original MEGO head.) The casting, color and paint job are flawless, and on initial inspection, it is identical to the original MEGO head.

The main difference is that Doc MEGO's repro heads have a "DM" copyright inscription on the backs of their necks (as opposed to the original SUPERMAN head which had the "NPP" (National Periodicals Publications) inscription.

From head to toe, Doc MEGO offers virtually EVERYTHING you could ever want to create a high quality reproduction MEGO Superman figure

Doc has the head, not sure what he calls it, but he has all the parts to make one. Consider this though, by the time you buy the repro parts, you can probably get a decent original superman cheaper.

I was thinking of trying a few personal touches on the suit, but have always loved the sculpt of the mego face. That's a good idea though, I could find a "naked" supes on ebay and then just give him a new costume. The again, my kids are probably not as discriminating as I am and probably wouldn't care if they have a frayed cape. Thanks for the responses.

Just as personal choice, I'd go with repro head and body for kids... why? Because the original bodies may not hold up to rough play, whereas the DOc Mego body might. The material his bodies are made of are more rubbery and are less likely to crack. Might last longer if your kid is planning on throwing Superman across the room to watch him fly. (I would, I have, I still do)

            Good Ideas.
I might make my kids a couple of Supes.

Wish there was an easy way to make a repro Doctor Who.

Repro Heads has an 8" Baker head - I got it and it is a great representation - CTVT has clothing that is close in the Happy Days line (Ralph I think it is- Pants / sweater vest) The jacket is the tough part - I had an orriginal that I shortened the sleaves on - a little big - But I'm good with that - Hat from CTVT (close) and I have to print a scarf onto the fabric paper I picket up at a local craft store. One of teh best parts is the Paper model Tardis that I found on the IRONCOWPROD.com site that can be printed to size and assembled - I'm going to glue mine over a Tissue box for extra thickness. Tehre are also sites out there with a paper model of K-9, again - print to size on card staock and assemble - bingo - Doc Who for the kids!
