    Any advice on what to use for the spirals around his arms and legs and wrists?

            I would use rubber O-rings. They come in various thicknesses/diameters and you can stack as many as you need together. You can get them at Lowe's or Home Depot. They come in black and clear but the black ones are much easier to paint.
            Below are all four sizes you'd need for the shoulder, elbow, knee and wrist.
