    12" Mego Superman body?

I picked up a beater 12" Reeves Superman off of ebay last week and he's in need of a left lower leg. Finding 12" parts is more difficult that I imagined it would be. How does the new FTC. 12" body compare to the Mego "muscle" body? If it's a slight difference, I think I may just swap the head and suit and call him a custom.

FTC's 12" body is an exact repro of Mego's 12" "Skinny" body, therefore it is significantly different from Mego's "Muscular" body. Nonetheless, I believe that Reeves head would look better in a "Skinny" body than in a "Muscular" body since he wasn't buff in real life and the Mego Reeve head actually looked a bit "pin headed" in the muscular body. You can tailor his costume for a new fit however the boots from the muscular body wont fit the skinny body. You will have to find yourself a pair of the Mego comic book version Superman instead...

I don't know if that is accurate. Not sure if the KISS Mego bodies are considered "muscular" or not (I thought they were but I'm no expert), but the FTC repro 12" bodies are identical to the KISS Mego bodies as a friend had me switch out heads from an old broken body to a new one. The only difference is that you will have to customize the neck/head hole, as the hole is to small for the neck peg to fit inside. Best thing to do (if switching a head from body to body) is take the head off the old body and then use some sort of heat to melt the hole on the new body - making it larger in size, using the hole from the original body as your guide.

^^^Mego KISS bodies are not "Muscular". They used Mego "Skinny" bodies. Actually I think they used more than one type of skinny bodies (i.e. "straight arms" body). Mego Reeves Superman is "Muscular".^^^

Mego KISS figures came on both skinny and muscular bodies.
          Fresh, not from concentrate.

People always get confused by these terms. The true "skinny" body is the one without articulated elbows, wrists, etc., aka the "straight arm" body. The first release KISS figures (except Peter) came on this body, also Sonny Bono and Lenny & Sqiggy. The bodies the KISS figures had later would more properly be described as the "standard" Mego 12" body, this is the one that has the pointing index finger on the right hand, and is the body FTC recently reproed. The "muscle" body is much bulkier than the "standard" body, KISS figures did not come with this body, but it is the one that the Reeves Superman mostly came with. The "comic" head Superman came on the "standard" body. Clear as mud?

These should help. Mego had three different 12" male bodies....... the Sonny Bono no-articulation body, the skinny or regular body (most like the 8" version), and then the beefier muscle body used on the Reeves Superman and some of the Buck Rogers figures.
