I may be late to the party with this stuff, but I bought this Silicone Repair Tape in the electrical section at Menards, right by the electrical tape.
It does not feel adhesive, but it sticks to itself when wrapped around something. It becomes permanent after a few minutes. I tried to remove a gauntlet when I wrapped it unevenly the first time, and you have to rip it apart and ruin it. So it is something that will last, and can be played with too.
