Good replacement for Mego Captain America shield

    Hi all,
I'm putting together a custom mego Captain America. Does anyone know what would work as an alternative to the mego cap shield? I was thinking about using a shield from a marvel legends or a famous covers, but I'm concerned about the scale. Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Steve

The plastic lid top from a bottle of Orange juice is the exact scale size needed to make a Captain America shield. I cannot think of the brand off hand unfortunately at this moment. Its fresh squeezed orange juice in a clear bottle with a green platic lid top. I will look it up and post excat name later.

I know this isn't what you are looking for, but just to share a fun Mego memory...

When I was a kid, I eventually lost or broke my Cap shield. So my dad made me a shield from a Pringles lid.

All chips lids aside, as I recall, one of the Toybiz Marvel Legends 6" figures had a shield that was roughly the same size as the mego shield, but harder & with
Elastic on the back. It works as an improved shield.
        Cheers,

I MIGHT(need to double check) have an extra shield from this figure. Only thing is I think the back(horse shoe looking plastic piece) is broken so you would have to figure out how to rig it up if it's something you would be interested in. Seeing as how the shield covers his entire arm on this 6" figure it looks like it might be almost in scale with the Mego one which only covers the lower half of his arm. It's yours if I have it and you want it.

The orange juice is called Tropicana Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice. The lid for it can easily be converted into a shield.

Doc Mego sells repros but may not have them up on his sight due to copyrights, just send him an email.

Lazermego also sells a shield shaped like the first Capt. America shield, if you wanted to go that route.

That's what I think I was looking for. Nicer looking than the original mego shield. I'm sure I can rig up some kind of strap for it. Let me know if you find it.

                  Thanks,
                  Steve

Found it but it also has a little nick in the paint. You could probably just paint it and make it look new. I've attached some photos for your review, looks like a pretty decent fit for MEGO. If you want it just drop a PM with your address and it will be on the way this week.

Just a thought, it's Easter season and if you shop CVS or what-have-you, you might find some really large Easter Egg shaped plastic containers. The fatter end might be cut to make a better custom shield.

That's a nice-looking shield. It's okay that the clip is broken, because I found that one to be too loose to stay on a Mego arm anyway... kept sliding off or rotating down.
But you could rig something onto the back to hold it in place for display.

Alternatively, I tried a Marvel Legends shield for one of mine. The size is just right and, as mentioned, has nifty elastic straps so Cap can either hold it or "back-pack" it!

You can't see from this pic, but it also has one of those clamp-style attachments in the middle, which will snap right on to a Mego wrist. The clamp is hinged and rotates flat against the shield back when worn on Cap's back.
