Mattel female bodies compatibility with Mego/Repro Heads?
Depends on the head, Ed. The Mattel body's neck is male, so you need a hole in the head you mate to it. Vinyl squishy heads sometimes press right on, sometimes their hole needs enlarged so as not to distort the head. Resin heads need the right size hole drilled in them so they're not too loose or too tight.
I'll take some photos of what I did for my Goblin Queen. It worked out well and the head stays on securely.
Just a quick description - I cut off about 1/8th inch of the Mattel neck ( leave the little attachment alone, just the visible neck ) and then made a small knob, out of Sculpy, on the little part that held the Mattel head on - take a match or cigarette lighter and hit the Sculpy a flame a few time for a few seconds, this will start the hardening reaction, let it sit for a couple of days to make sure it hardens up enough. That give you the knob for a regular Mego style head. On the head I enlarged the hole a bit but in doing it hold the knife at an angle to bevel the hole downward so the Mattel neck seats into the head.
The trick with the flame to harden Sculpy works well if you want to use Sculpy on something that can't be baked but the Sculpy doesn't get as hard/solid as when it's baked, something to remember if trying it.
Glad to help. I'll be sanding the knob down when the clay dries, it doesn't need to be to big. Also as far as shortening the neck, just lower it to a place you like without the head sitting up too high.
Just thinking off the top of my head but masking or duct tape might be a quicker way to make the ball for the head to fit on. If it will survive having the head pushed on.

I have used tape in the past but wanted to try for something sturdier.
Thanks so much Magyar, those pictures are super-helpful.
I have been searching for this thread all morning!
That's why I'm bumping it up. I'm gonna do this to a custom Tigra this weekend!
Thanks Gene for the idea!

I had an issue with removing the head and the air dried clay breaking - just a warning.
I've actually started using tape again and it's working pretty well - I did tape for my Vampirella.

Hey Gene,
I use this stuff to make neck plugs, like I did for Gary's Dr. MAN-tis: 1 (2).jpg2.JPG
I'm going to use it to make the ball on the top of that neck pin.
It's an epoxy resin. You break a piece off and knead it and mix it until it is one solid color. It can be sanded and painted too.
how you going to go about doing tigra.what head are you going to use & are you going to screen print the suit.
I am using a CTVT Red-haired female head. I have dyed it orange with hair color.
Check this thread: http://megomuseum.com/community/show...ra-head-dyeing
I have since put more orange dye over it again, and painted the eyes green.
Right now I am trying to dye the Mattel RA body with RIT orange.
A screen-printed suit was done by Capt_Amego: Tigra_suit.jpg
I'm hoping to have it done this weekend.
