    Amateur Rit dye question

I have NEVER had any success with rit dye, maybe cause I've used the liquids. I need some help on a project coming up. I have almost two yards of red spandex that I need to make darker, like a brick red or crimson. I've seen formulas on the Rit website to make this, but I think those are based on starting out with white. Any ideas or recommendations for making a dark red spandex? I'm not going to dye the entire 2 yards, just a few body suits, so a smaller recipie is fine. All help is appreciated.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

You'll need to experiment with both the strength of the dye mixture and how long you submerge the fabric. And ya gotta let the fabric dry before you'll know what it will really look like. Plan for trial and error.

I'm mostly planning for error. Starting with red and using spandex and not cotton I have no idea what will happen. Guess I'll buy some crimson/wine color and maybe a little black? I've got plenty of material to experiment with, I was just unsure how starting with red would affect the outcome.

        Scott,
You might give this a try http://www.jacquardproducts.com/idye.html
I have had fantastic luck with it, it dyes poly blend synthetics better than anything i have ever tried, stuff RIT wouldn't even tint. The red they have is a very deep blood/crimson and might work just right for ya.

Does is have top be spandex? Because you can get darker-red synthetic jersey (Jet Set).

I've got so much of this stuff I need to use it. I really like the feel, look and fit of a 4-way spandex for my figures but I may be forced to use another material if necessary. Dave, I contacted them to see what they recommend for spandex since most of their product lines are for natural fabrics.
