    Shrink BBP Doctor Who Head

Has anyone has any success shrinking the 4th Doctor's gigantic head? I like the figure, but the bobble head is just driving me nuts. Was thinking about trying to give it a shrink, but wanted to know if anyone else has went down that path before me.

It seems like it would only need to be shrunk a small amount. Anyone?

I guess no one has tried but there are many people here who have shrunk other scale heads to fit on Megos. Someone would know how to do it even if they haven't tried yet.

The "safe" way is a multi-step process. The risky way is chuck it into acetone, let it expand, then carefully remove it from the liquid and let it dry out. Paint will be lost and the head could tear. There's also no guarantee it will end-up the size you want.

Hey EMCE Hammer,..since you say this is the way to shrink a head,...what or how is the way to make it bigger?

I think there's a product called Hydro-span on the market. You take the original head, make a mold, cast a new head in the Hydro-span material then add water,(?), and it will expand and harden in the larger size. It's a hit or miss thing tho. I think Dave Lee used it to enlarge Spidey-heads for awards at Megocon. You can enlarge it in steps but no guarantee you'll get it exactly the size you want.

Haven't tried this but it looks promising!

A user can shrink a silicone rubber mold 18% - 22% by mixing NOVOCS silicone solvent with the silicone.

I use Hydrospan 400 and HydroSpan 100 Expanding Resin. There is a bit of work to using either. I like the 100 because I can pressure pot all the steps so minimal to no holes. 400 (the shrinking one) is a bit tricky as the "gelatin" type state sets fast so you cant pressure pot it and depending on the ratio of water, distortion can happen when creating the mold. I'm not an expert so there might be easier ways to do it. Anyhow, I am working on about 6 heads right now (all shrunken) and when I am done, I will post pics and if you guys want me to do some of the Dr. Who heads, let me know and all I need is the donor (which will be returned unharmed after I make the copy).
