Painting Question. Which tape to use for masking?

What would be the ideal tape to use for masking a head for painting? It's a resin head. I would like nice crisp lines when I remove the tape, and don't want any paint bleeding. Would the regular "Blue" painter's tape be my best option? Any other hints or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hmmmm....

I've never used tape for a head. You could probably get some thin masking tape. It might be easier to freehand though.

I'm painting a black Spider-Man head. I painted it White, and am planning on masking the eyes to spray the Black.

I used liquid masking with a small brush to do the eyebrows on one of my heads and it worked great. I think the liquid mask I used is latex for use over paint on paper so it shouldnt pull the cured paint off a piece. The other night I was using green painters tape (which is low tack) to keep some epoxy in place on a urethane head and it barely held. I wouldnt recomment using that.

Silly putty works the best in my opinion. I know alot of modeler use it as well.

Tape may pull your white paint off. I would go with silly putty as well.

Silly Putty sounds interesting. I wasn't aware of using it this way. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Then there is the Vasoline method. Those awful plastic paintbrushes they sell with cheap watercolor sets, work well to apply a thin coat over any area you want unpainted. Coat to the exact line you want covered, spray and wait until paint completely sets. Wipe of with lint-free cloth.
I'm gonna look into this "Silly-Putty" method.

HA! I never even thought about "masking" I've just trained myself to have a steady hand. ROTFLMAO!
