    Painting rotocast heads

Any tips on this? I'm thinking of doing some Minor paints on roto heads (CTVT mainly ) for custom projects . Is there a type of paint that would work?

My Italian Batman custom project requires that I paint an original Mego Batman head black. Although I've yet to paint a vinyl rotocast head, I have some ideas to try.

Filling the head: For the purpose of keeping the head from collapsing and cracking any paint layer. Magic Sculpt would work but also add weight and make the doll top heavy. Crayola Air-Dry Model Magic is soft doughy compound that is very light weight.

Acetone wipe: After a good cleaning of the doll head with mild soap and a toothbrush, with a cotton swab and rag, wipe the surfaces to be painted with acetone. Repeat mild soap/toothbrush wash to clean off any remaining acetone.

Painting: Depending on what and how much surface is to be painted, may decide which paint and approach. In the case of the Batman head I want to repaint, I'm going to look into Automotive vinyl spray paint. If I was only painting the eyes white, I would probably just use acrylic hobby paint and brush. In spray painting, mask off all areas you do not want painted. For tiny areas, with a paintbrush apply petroleum jelly. When the paint dries, these areas will wipe away taking the dry paint with the jelly.

Sealing/clear coating: I use Matt Clear Coating and Gloss Clear Coating in spray and brushing forms. The trick with painting and coating is not to get the layers too thick. Painting requires enough to cover the surface well and not have the original material color showing through. Sealing/coating, does not. Believe it or not, a very light spray or brush coating is all that's need to protect the paint job.
