Are these only for the males? Do you have an idea of what to do for the females if this won't work for females?

No, those are shoes. If you've ever looked at the feet of the chimpanzees and orangutans in the APES films and TV series, they have shoes that feature the prominent "thumb" on their feet. That's what these are. If they were just feet, then Ian might as well have just used the ST Mugato feet.

What I meant was, they attach directly to the legs, like feet

Do you mean the 3 toe boots? I think i'm right in saying that they are available from Dr Mego.
I don't have the necessary know-how to make hollow boots and shoes.
