I'm making another custom, but I need a little help...

    Hi guys,

This time, I'm getting braver and painting a head. I did it in acrylic art paint, (the kind for kids). I had it on a broken body so I could sit it up and paint from all sides. It looks pretty good, except when I tried to remove the head from the broken body, the paint on the neck peeled off. I'm really proud of this paint job, and don't want the rest of it to peel off as well. I was thinking clear nail polish, but I'm not sure. Oh, BTW, this is for my babysitting charge, Zachary, age 9, who will be playing w/ it.

    Any suggestions?

Hardygirl, if you used clear nailpolish, it will have that dreaded custom shine that you don't like...

I use flat spray coat from Walmart. It's like $2 a can. You can buy it in the paint department. I used it on the Owlman custom I have posted in this forum right now which is a resin molded head. I used it on a beat Captain America head that I repainted and as long as you don't squeeze it too much it worked OK on soft heads also.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

Hardy girl you can never remove that head without messing up the paint. You can cut the body apart to get the head. But then you have to shove the head onto a new body. Same problem. I would suggest restringing the body. Should work for you. You can shoot some Dullcoat from a rattle can to seal the paint. It doesn't harm acrylics and is friendly with original mego heads.

Well, I was just gonna paint the neck and apply (whatever I'm gonna use) once I get the new body. That means I'd rather use something I can brush on, if possible.

Try a brush on acrilic sealer. I've been useing Liquitex matt varnish with good results. Apply about 4 thin coats and it should keep it from pealing or chipping.

Did you prime the head first?
I use a matte acrylic sealer from wal-mart its under $2,and they keep it with the other acrylics.Good luck.
