    Dye proportions

Anyone have a Rit dye recipe / correct proportions to match Castaway skin tone? (ie one part red, one part yello, etc) I have a white mego type 2 body and light grey Phantom hands I would like to match as close as possible.

I was surprised that "dye" brought up no results in a search of the Custom Mego forum.

    Cheers,

    Marty

Okay then ... ya can tell I'm the noob around here.

Tried to dye the mego body and it got slightly pink but the wrist went dark red. So I'm guessing not all the plastics used are doable.

I know the arms and legs are made from a different plastic than the torso and take the dye differently. That's bout the extent of my knowledge on that. Don't have a clue bout the dye ratios.

Hi ubermanx, there is a powder chart on RIT' site. You click on the color bar at the bottom and then the color block you want to achieve and it will give you the ratios.

The arms, hands, feet and legs on Doc' bodies (Swivel arm buff body, which are freaking awesome) are made of a different plastic and absorb color more quickly. The torso and trunks have to be left in longer, BUT they might not take enough color to achieve what you want, so you need to add some acetone to the warm/hot water (not boiling and be careful because it can splatter when added) a little at a time. Here is a video of the how it is done..

It works, and I have done three bodies but unfortunately, I dont have batteries in the camera (rrrrr). I even left an arm part in too long (and it went too dark) and sprayed it with white Krylon for plastic, left it a week and then dyed it again to match. Couldn't believe that worked!
