In all honestly, there are a lot of characters to create customs for, and a lot of opinions on "classic style". Knowing exactly what you are looking for (ie. "I need a Neal Adams Batman head") would make it a lot easier to point you in the right direction.

As for the classic style? What characters are you looking for? The classic style could mean a few things. That's kind'a broad and subjective.

Also Aquatroy makes some really cool custom heads of characters. Mostly his sculpts are based on fave cartoon interpetations but I've bought a handful of his custom heads and they are magnificent:
