    Makerbot's 3D Scanner

    Makerbot a company that makes "affordable" 3D printers have announced a new 3D scanner that is now available to order:

    MakerBot tipped off some of its loyal fans last week by way of newsletter, but now the Digitzer's arrival is officially officially. The next piece of the Brooklyn company's ever-expanding 3D printing ecosystem has been revealed piece by piece since debuting back at SXSW, and now it's finally ready to make its way to maker hands. Well, in a few months, at least. Pre-orders for the spinning 3D scanner are open now -- plunk down $1,400 (plus $150 for the MakerCare support program, if you're so inclined), and one of these bad boys can be yours in mid-October. The device captures 3D images from objects up to eight-inches tall with help from two lasers and a camera, a system the company has, naturally, optimized for its own Replicator printers and Thingiverse 3D object catalog.     It can scan object up to 8" in size. Sounds perfect for Megos! I'll be curious when they start shipping to hear the reviews. But if is does a good job, it could be quite a boon to making custom action figures.

      It looks good. The 3D printing seems to be hit-and-miss.
      If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

          Funny you posted this thread yesterday as this printer was on our morning news. This one is pretty phenomenal and uses plastic cord or ribbon to make the parts. They look good, really good. None of those little lines. Here is the Google forum for my area..
