HELP - sculpting curly hair

I'm trying my hand at some sculpting an was wondering if there was an easy way to get a curly hair look?

Someone once advised me to make very thin clay "snakes" and use them to build up the hair, eventually shaping it into the style you want. You could do the same, but make the snakes curled. Afterward, you can take a paintbrush with water or alcohol, depending what kind of clay you're using and use it to do a little blending, but not too much.
