Has anyone on here used CTVT bodies for anything they're working on? I'm curious to know if they are still selling the crappy bodies from India or not.
In my experience, quality has improved over time. But bodies can still be a little hit or miss.
However, CTVT's customer service is top notch. Whenever I have contacted them about something that wasn't quite up to snuff, they've always replaced it no questions asked.
This is where you have to be careful. CTVT is still getting rid of their old inferior body stock, so you have to be mindful of what you're ordering. The "new and improved" bodies on the KISS figures are completely different from the bodies they are selling individually here:
I looked through their website and did not find any of the new bodies (in 8 inch scale) being sold individually. If you look at the new 12 inch bodies, this is how they should look in the 8 inch scale if you're wanting the improved design:
Note the new bodies have rubber hands and the mid section is entirely different. See how the legs seat inside the bottom section? When you compare the old bodies (from the first link) with these new ones, you can immediately see the difference. The legs stick out at the hips where they connect on the old ones. And the hands and feet are brittle on the old production bodies. So if you want bodies at all from CTVT, you want the new ones. Not the old junk they're trying to clear out. I'm not sure if they are even offering those new ones yet. It might help to inquire with them. But these old ones are very unreliable. And if these break, they'll just send you more defective product until you quit trying.
two dudes.JPG The Dr. Doom in this picture is from CTVT. It was very difficult to get this figure to stand for the picture. I would not reccomend these bodies unles you box them or card them. Just my opinion.
I've gotten both kind when ordering. Even the good ones are tightly strung and not very pose able. Now, if you're going to card them as I often do it doesn't really matter. But if you're wanting to pose them or play with them I'd get Doc Mego bodies, they're simply better.
I am going to echo what everyone else said. They have been hit or miss, but the service is top notch. and they ship almost instantly your order is there in 2-3 days topps.
Doc makes a far superior body and provides equally great service but you do have to wait just a little bit longer being he is a 1 man show.
The last batch I got was fine. a little tight but fine. if you plan to leave them on card or in box you should have no issues
if you want to display loose and pose them you might have some issues.
what I've noticed is the 5 back of bodies seems to be the newer ones/better
the happy days guys loose sets seem to be the older ones.
but like i said carded or boxed they work fine. IMO
and for slimmer guys they work best like my quick silver and alter ego customs. this way they are not to jacked/large - again imo
I just ordered 10 more today - and it shows them as shipped i'll drop you a line when they get here to confirm if you want
I'll be honest with you guys,...
I ordered the 8 inch KISS (Mego like) figures (the new ones with the rubber hands) and I wasn't happy with the bodies at all.
They twist at the waist and are all hunched over, they're horrible.
I ended up replacing the bodies with Dr Mego bodies and that wasn't the easiest thing to do either because the Dr Mego bodies are slightly more muscular and the costumes are a VERY tight fit.
I just hope that they get these issues resolved before they release of the Batman lines.
Yeah; each later wave has been better than the last, quality-wise. It's a bit hit or miss, but if you can get them cheap and don't mind doing a bit of work they're usually worth it. NEVER use the female ones though.

I do not have the kiss figures - but i ordered a demon costume
they sent it to me on a body - i stripped it down - the body looked almost 7 inch - not full size mego body it was smaller

That could be why I had such a hard time stretching the costumes over the Dr Mego bodies.
In any event, I'm hoping for the best with the new Batman series.
I'm pretty happy with Classic TV Toys.
I have used Doc MEGO's bodies and TV Toys for my custom stuff. I love both. It depends on what you are doing.
Anyway, I've read TV Toys is making better bodies.
As I said on one of these post, what people are calling Re-Pro's are in FACT the NEW MEGO'S.
Mego went under and companies are bringing them back. Good to know Doc Mego and CTVT's is their to bring them back to life.
I do love Mattel 8 inch figures, but it does lack that Mego feel. I still love it all. We all have our own childhood memories and we all have are own opinions on Mego.
We do what makes us happy and in the long run..that's all that matters.

Sometimes you can get CTVT clothes on to an original Mego body.
Doc Mego's bodies have larger thighs than Mego, so it is harder to stretch some of CTVT's clothing on to them.

That would actually be my best option.
I own some original Star Trek Mego's and in my opinion, you just can't beat those bodies, even at 40 years old.
