    is mold release flammable?

I have an old Creepy Crawler mold from 1964 (Giant ant), with todays Goop, it is very hard to remove the ant from the metal mold after he is done cooking. He pretty much tears in certain spots.

I was thinking of spraying the mold with a mold release to see if that might help, but since creepy crawlers "cook" in the toy oven, I was not sure if I can spray on mold release or not.

    Does anyone know?

    Hmmmm....

Most of them are wax or petroleum based, so they probably won't ignite, but they will melt and burn. ('Course, they MIGHT ignite, depending on what you use....) If you're just looking for a legion of ants, you might try someplace like Smooth-On, or any other provider for an equivalent RTV material that won't adhere to metal.

      Perhaps PAM cooking spray?

Thanks for the info. I have other older molds and though you have to be careful, the Goop does come out of them fine. The giant ant is sort of a bit deeper than the normal Creepy crawler mold and when trying to "pull" the goop out if often tears. I did use the zubber like -alumnite mold maker in it once because I knew that would not stick and I do have a "pink" giant ant now, but obviously would love to have the color retro color scheme that goops offers

I then tried resin (with glow in the dark) and I had no idea just how well the resin would stick to the metal mold which led me to get a new one off ebay. So the mold release would be if I ever tried that again, but also because I figured it could help when I do use goop since that kind of sticks in it as well

CTC: Can you give me any more info with smooth-on or the other RTV material you had mentioned?

Dr. Cyclops-- PAM!!! I never thought of that, I actually have it here and will give it a try tonight using the goop

The Hyperlast Synlube 531 I have is a non-silicone mold release, and it indicates the liquid is extremely flammable. There does look like some releases are made to resist the heat.

Looks like baby powder is a option as well!

http://www.smooth-on.com/ They got all kinds of stuff. I get my supplies from a place in Alberta; but I don't know if it'd be possible to get it across the border. Smooth-On also sells dyes for colouring their plastics. Works well, gets on EVBERYTHING if you're not careful.

There are, but that gets into a whole other kettle of fish. (I had a friend who used high-temp stuff to make pewter minis.)

It makes a poor release, but it's good for preventing air bubbles.

Thanks for the links and info, I will be looking into them. I can say that the PAM cooking oil spray DID work, though of course I used a little bit too much so I had a greasy mess on the mold and the ant afterwards but I cleaned him (and the mold) up fine. If i try it again will use less PAM

PAM was a total WAG. Glad to hear it worked.
