    Daily Planet Playset Version 1

Tried to get this done in time for the original Feb 17th 1978 Re: Imagined deadline, I'm a day late and a dollar short. Thankfully we've extended! Heh. Big thanks to Mego Steve and Anthony The Toyroom and DaveMc for helping me think this one through.

Here's my Daily Planet (more pics here)using the new Dida Displays tower design. Parts came in about 10 days ago and we've been assembling pre-orders. I'll have the shop up and running soon for blank sets for customizers as well as the whole rest of the line. The part look top notch!

The letters really completed the globe! Dig that light cast on the wall!

It's a 3 level "mini" vinyl playset...kinda weird in that it doesn't have an entrance or way to connect to each floor. For instance, in a larger set there might be a revolving door entrance (still playing with that one) or the storage room would be next to the office. I'm going to try a more deluxe set, but I do feel that one can only have so much "office space" when it comes to toys, and since this is really only for Clark and maybe a Lois and Jimmy, I'd prefer this more compact planet and save space for a big Batcave or Enterprise.

Lobby entrance with view of reporter's bullpen...I'm not sure using photos of toys is the way to go, could go with comic images instead, but since this is my own set I went with all of the Superman images I made at the Mego Museum over the years. The Mego Superman is my favorite. Love the cape...

Office with tvs for monitoring the world's crises...These are removeable images of Google images stuff treated in Photoshop. Desk needs work, but I like it's simplicity.

And storage room for a quick change getaway...Love the brass turn locks. Instant Mego feel...

Turn the globe to reveal hidden Superman...See the webpage for how this is constructed. Have a few things to improve from an engineering standpoint. The globe is heavy but the tower supports it easily. This is also the first time I've installed a window--I finished the edges with pastic track since there's no way to seal the vinyl properly on an interior cut like that. It works...

Up, up, and away...Bad focus, sorry.

Thanks for looking, I'll enjoy your comments and critique.

Kudos Scott! I was already impressed with the mock-ups you showed me but this came out AWESOME! I like the fact that it's a simple playset...I think a full size one may be too big for just Clark/Supes. After all, I'm not sure how many people have custom Lois and Jimmy figures in their collection. But everyone has Superman.

Everything looks fantastic and the globe is too cool! Very inspiring! Congrats!

Cool! George and Christopher Reeves (RIP to both) would be proud!

That looks wicked cool, Scott. The globe is a great touch, especially with the working light

WOW! You've really outdone yourself with that globe. That's just killer! Really like the artwork, and the size of the set makes good sense to me for all the reasons you mentioned. Really nice work!

Stunning! I couldn't even have imagined something like that a few years ago. The hard part with these Didas is going to be deciding which way to go. Does Superman get a set, or does Spidey? Do I get one for my Treks, or my apes? Monsters?!? Argh!

What Steve said. You are a genius, sir! Is there any better time to be a Mego collector than now?
