Has customizing fallen off a bit?

Hey...been away about two years, and I am noticing fewer customs on EBay. Also got a few e-mails about some of the main custom suppliers closing shop. Is the popularity of customs falling off?

“As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery… we have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness.” - The Dalai Lama

I just started customizing less than 6 months ago. I never knew such pleasure could exist! I love my new hobby.

I have only made POTA stuff because I'm such a fan of that movie. There are lots of costumes still left to make. So far I have made Zira, Cornelius, Zaius and General Ursus, and a 1:6 scale Nova costume. It's definitely slow going but it's totally fun and a great way to spend my nervous energies.

I think interest in the hobby comes in waves just like everything else. Most of us I think do this hobby when we're able too. I for one have been busy with my personal life lately and have not had the time to participate much or make any customs but they stay on my mind everyday and as soon as I'm able I will be cranking out some figures Hopefully soon.

I recently started customizing again after doing nothing for almost a year because of moving and my job, but I fully intend to put quite a few together again this year
And I've seen a couple of new customizers here, so the hobby is still very much alive.
And can't say I've seen less customs on eBay lately. Rather the opposite I'd say, there were even some playsets (Star Trek and Space 1999) for sale

Present and Discuss Your Mego Customs Here

I believe it's Russ from Customlabs. I received an email from him about a week or so ago.... if it's permanent he'll surely be missed.

Well I certainly can not speak for Russ... However he had an issue with the company that hosts his shops site in the yearly fee's it costs for him to have his shops site up. They couldn't come to terms with a price. SO he decide to take some time off, to think about what he would like to do.

I think to ask this Question in a Forum section that has 40 pages of customs and questions, with over 10 threads on each page, that has only been up for around a yr , pretty much answers for itself,.. in the fact that Customs are stronger than ever.

As far as a sellers market, I am not sure, because I do not have a shop. There has been a lot of newbies that have also entered the Game in the last few yrs. Alot more Artists are making figures today as well. The Hobby of Customizing, is NOT going away anytime soon.

I heard Customs lab is shutting down. Too bad, he has such great accessories and overall variety. Maybe he is just going to scale back a little. I know he has a family and new job, so keeping up with orders is probably difficult. When/if it isn't fun anymore, you need to take a break or slow down. Captain Dunsel shut down a while back, as well.

I started customs maybe two years ago, but my first few were not acceptable. The more I improve the more I love it and am constantly thinking about who to start next now that I am finally happy with some of my work.

I am working on 7 customs myself right now as well as a couple things for other people and I've had some family illnesses over the last moth or two as well as couple other issues.Soon as I get everything squared away I'll get cranking them out again.
