So we finally broke down and got the Elf on the Shelf set. My kids teachers are doing it in class and they really wanted a scout elf to come to the house. Anyway...it is one creepy loking toy. But the face looked familiar. Decided we needed to do some Megoized elves. Getting the DM Parker head and the CTVT Brunette girl head, and some red bodysuits. Might add Robin shoes to break up the look.

We have an old wire elf that we kind of used as an Elf on a Shelf, and my son really played it up to our daughter this year. We watched the official TV special on CBS Friday night, so now I can see that the book and figure set will be coming our way by next December.
There is a Pop Vinyl figure of the Shelf Elf as well. Saw it at Target this weekend.
Be sure to post your customs!

Correct me if I'm wrong here. Didn't the Elf on the Shelf figure exist long before this author created the book and copyright it??? As I remember, Those wire form elves were around for decades and my family called them "An Elf on the Shelve" long before I heard of the book. I hate to sound all self righteous and all, but its kinda been annoying me. Its like somebody writing about a Christmas tree and then claiming the copyright on all things related.Comment

Apparently they came up with the idea in the 60's and really turned it into a business in the 80's, but it's gotten much bigger in the last year or so. To the point where they're having TV specials and the like. I don't think they like just came up with the idea last week or anything. But you're right that at least the knee hugger elves do predate the "Elf on a Shelf" concept.Comment

I have two that date from when I was a little kid in the 60's - one has the plastic head just like the one pictured and the other is made of styrofoam.Comment
