    Cool repaints

Have you ever been really excited to pick up an action figure or collectible doll only to look at the face and go, "meh?" (Except for that Tom Hiddleston/Loki doll, good god.) While the creators of these figures usually spend a lot of time coming up with something that looks similar to the actor who played the part, they've got nothing on Noel Cruz. He painstakingly repaints the faces of some already pricey dolls (Hot Toys, Tonner, etc.) to give them the realistic look we all wanted in the first place. If you like what you see, you can try and commission one from him but prepare yourself - 12 inch dolls start at $1000. He does a lot of pop-culture work but take a look at what he's done with the characters from Harry Potter, Twilight, The Lord of the Rings, and more. (via Jezebel)

Wow. My tendency is to blame the sculpt, but paints like these really make me rethink that.
      Fresh, not from concentrate.

Yea, the Liv Tyler is a perfect example. If you had shown me the before I'd have no idea who it was suppose to be. Not so with the after, it looks just like her.

The Christopher Reeve is so dead on that it's almost life like. Brilliant.

That's awesome. The Tonner stuff is so mannequin-like, but he just proved there is some craft in the sculpt there. They need to hire this guy!!!

              oh wow...that is awesome.
That guy's eyesight, hand control....hell, and to know paint well enough to get a brush to absorb juuuust the right amount, the right thickness to get it to lay like that...wow.
I saw the Chris Reeves one and damn near teared up it looked so real.
              damn.

Mr. Cruz is indeed amazing. I saw his works online earlier this year and tracked him down on facebook. He's a really cool guy too. Very nice, approachable and humble.

This really makes my point that so often sculpts are only as good as the paints applied. You can take the best sculpt and fry it with a lousy paint job. This guy just does amazing work. And to think he even improved a Hot Toys figure as well. That really makes me rethink the process right there, since the head is what people typically judge these figures on.

These paint jobs are very complex and awesome, but even with the simplicity of the Mego style, the main make or break for a paint job is seating the pupils correctly so it doesn't look like they're getting goosed. Eyebrows are also important. The resulting expression can look ridiculous.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

Totally blown away at how real they look. Guy has mad talent. Speaking for myself however, I would never pay $1,000 for them. Not saying they aren't worth it, just i would not pay that much.
