Restringing legs on an okay vintage Dinah

I just got a new vintage Dinah in the mail today, and I noticed that her legs are abnormally loose.

I peeked inside the thigh hip joint and the rubber bands are rotting away!

She can't stand on her own or hold a pose like this.

So, any suggestions on just restringing her legs?

Without having to break the inner post of the upper thigh?

I know that cutting away the old band is the first part, but how to effectively restring her through the pelvic joint?

Try fishing a pc of elastic up around the arm connector band then back down, so the leg band makes an egg like shape. You should be able to spin (turn) the legs in circles to take up the extra slack.

A while back I scored a moderate sized lot on eBay, & it came with a naked Dorothy that needs to be restrung. I never restrung it. I've gotten relatively competent on restringing T1 & T2 male bodies, but I have no idea where to start to restring a female body... This may be a good time to learn. If ya want, I'll try to see what I can do with my Dorothy as sort of a practice run, then let ya know what I find out... (It's not new like your Dinah Mite, so there's no risk if I mess it up & break it...) lemme know... Also- PM me if ya want, & ill just send you the Dorothy so you can practice on that one...

Oh, she's not new as in out of the box. She's just new to me cuz I just got her.

She came dressed in a blue one piece bathing suit, and has extremely loose legs.

Let me know how you do on that Dorothy.

I think the biggest problem with redoing the female legs are that they are made for the elastic to be inserted as they are fused together and connected to each other before being put into the pelvis and the pelvis fused together. Makes repairs problematic.

I've done nothing further with my CTVT female body since my thread 'Restring a CTVT fatman body'. The problem I ran into with the CTVT female body was, the deep set leg/hip post was too deep into the leg, to get a ring around. Attempts to string the cord around the leg/hip post caused the stance to pull worse than the original band.
DrMego's female restrings rather well with sanded CTVT male hip-pins and tiny rings. If you get a strong enough elastic cord, you can string it once, using the method of restring a type one and a CTVT with rings.
If you have trouble with the legs spreading out, try stringing the cord, over the top of the pelvic inner post and back down to through the other leg ring. Pictures of the disassembled doll pieces would help.

I know I've done it, but it's been a while. I'd have to look at a disassembled Mego gal first. I think I used flat elastic instead of the round cord, for some reason.

Well, the rubber band that held the legs in place finally gave up the ghost this morning. It had many cracks in it, and I'm surprised that it held out this long.

Should I used .25" flat elastic? I have plenty of it.

Now, how much to use? Just tie off one end on a post in one hip, thread through the pelvis and the other post, then tie off tight?

How many inches should I use? Say maybe 2 inches to start, and then, after tying off I simply cut the excess?

Yes, I used .25" flat elastic. Somehow, it was easier to thread that around the posts inside the hips. I might have used a safety pin or pliers to help it through. I just made a loop - threading it from the top and down through one leg, through the pelvis, then up from the bottom of the other leg and back into the pelvis. I just tied the two ends together at the top. I don't know how much I started with, just that I had to tinker with it until the legs fit the way I wanted, then trimmed off a good bit. You might want to start with more than 2" - that seems a liitle short. I've used the same basic method to replace the rubber band that connects the arms, although it's a little easier because they have removable pins. To replace the center band, I started the elastic from the top of the torso. I fed it through the upper torso, waist, and looped it around the bar in the pelvis. I fed it back through the same way, then held both ends together and fed them through the neck plug, tying a knot at the top.
