With my 'Dick Briefer's Frankenstein head' moving along, my interest in my earlier 'over-sized for 1/9th scale' Nosferatu and London-Hyde heads increased. From what I can currently determine, these heads seem to fit with 9 to10 inch size (head included) dolls.
My approach in these head designs, is to be eclectic, and not approach designs that have been done again and again (i.e. Universal's monsters).
Here's what I got so far:
1) Vampire: character style Nosferatu.
2) Mr. Hyde: London After Midnight style.
3) Frankenstein: Dick Briefer's horror version, not his humor character version.
Now here is where I'm stuck, the next monster head I want to add is a werewolf.
Jack Davis is out because his E.C. werewolves have way too much a feline appearance. I found out through designing characters over a Superbuddies, that the more you try to pull a wolf's face over a human face, the more feline it appears.
Bernie Wrightson's 'long nose wolf head' design has been used a lot since 'The Howling' and 'Silverbullet'.
'American Werewolf in London' would require a completely different body.
Failing to recall any other comicbook artist's werewolf designs I like, I consulted my friend Eric. Eric is an expert on the Wolfman movies, he suggested Landon's 'I was a Teen-age Werewolf'. I told him, I would rather do a Oliver Reed 'Cures of the Werewolf. Problem with the Oliver Reed, is that I'm saving that one in hopes that one day I will do a series of 1/9th Hammer Horror heads and I'm not fond of the 'Teen-Age' version.
These bigger ones, I would like to be strange and unique.
I would also be interested in hearing ideas for other unique monsters styles, for this larger scale series.
