Adding a resin head to a CTVT body.

With DrMego body, I just boil and separate the chest. Insert resin head and reglue, and restring (with the original pieces, not elastic cord). CTVT chests appear to be one molded piece.
I'm wondering if the plug shaved way down close to the neck post, and boiling the chest will allow enough flex to insert the 'shaved resin plug' directly into the neck hole?
Has anyone tried this? Any other recommendations?

Just hollow out the neck hole a bit AND shave down the resin. Then push and twist.

Yes. It just takes some combination of shaving the neck plug and heating the chest. Or perhaps dremeling / widening the neck hole on the CTVT body.

I've done over a dozen customs using CTVT bodies and resign head. A little howllowing out of the neck hole and shaving down the neck plug most of the way usually works well then push and twist. I also take a sharp knife and slit the neck hole along each seam to the shoulder about a 1/4 inch, that allows the plastic to push apart while doing the push and twist.

        HEY! My 1000th post!

Only issue with the doc body is the seams. If you dont get it right the 1st time, the shoulder seams will crack and the arms will suc k into the arm holes. Has happened alot to me.

Of the three I've done so far, I think two were from my 'Create your own Zombie' set and had different design to the two part chest. The chest has a post inside like the pelvis that runs from the inside abs, to the inside lower back. The DrMego chest does not have this post. Although I had no problems with the one I did, I'll be extra careful in the future. Thanks!

Yeah, i forced a resin head into a doc body and it seemed fine, but it fell from a shelf and popped the chest apart. I still have to fix it.

I trim the necks down myself. The trick is to get it small enough to pop in and not crack the body seams. Sometimes it's easier to make it too small and build the neck up with tape which has more give.

Having built a lot of Aurora figure kits and customized many action figures, I've learned the difference of PVC and Styrene plastics. DrMego's chests are Styrene and resist expantion even when heated. Forcing a plug into this material would most likely crack (if not break apart) the glue seam.
Gary, if you want to repair this yourself, here is the process I use.
Since the chest has already popped apart, you get to skip the first and second step of unstring the body, boiling the chest and popping it apart.
So, on to Step 3: Attaching the head to the chest. With the glue of choice, and good strong rubber-bands, apply glue to the contact points of a chest half. Be careful to stay away from the neck hole. You don't want to fuse the neck to the head. While holding firm the two chest havles around the neck plug, remove any excess glue from the outside chest seams. Then apply many rubber-bands tightly around entire chest. Allow to dry.
Step 4: Remove rubber-bands. I don't try to save the rubber-bands. I cut them off with sharp scissors, and clean off any remaining rubber that may get fused to the seams.
Step 5: Restring the body. Since you did'nt have to start at Step 1, (disassembling the body) with two pair of needle-nose plyers bend shoulder metal hook out just enough to remove arms. Using a large metal paper clip bent straight with a hook at the end, thread the leg with hooks and band up the body to the opposite arm. Once pulled through, you may want to bend the straight end of the paperclip for a better hold. With one pair of needle-nose, grab the arm hook as low as you can. Reattach arm and close hook with a second pair of needle-nose plyers. Release.
                      Hope I didn't forget anything.

I'd considered trimming the neck some til it was just a bit smaller then the hole, then using "green stuff" (which is 2 color putty that when combined hardens to a plastic state to anchor the neck inside the chest).. but I think I'll try the trimming deal 1st.

Your "green stuff" sounds like 'Kneed-A-Tite' epoxy. I can no longer find this product for sale.
Perhaps I'm just not understanding correctly, but I'm a little confused. How do you plan to attach the "green stuff" while the post/neck-plug is in the chest?
