Anyone Do Hair ReRooting?

Looking for anyone that can do hair rerooting for a doc mego female head without slicing the neck.
Need it in light pink, long and straight.
It's for my daughter.

I know a guy, but he's not cheap. Rerooting is a tedious process. I wonder if a blonde head could be dyed pink?

I heard it can be dyed but the shade my daughter wants, I don't think it can be dyed. It's a light pink color. I hoped she wanted hot pink but likes light pink.

I'd be interested to get the address of a reliable and skilled re-rooter as well. I tried two different persons independantly from each other in the past and both times was ripped of. I had to pay up-front for the service and never received the head!!!
So any recommendation on somebody to work with would be great.

I've done rooting, but not RErooting.

I do know that they sell tools to do this, mainly for larger heads like Barbie. The tool essentially just "pushes" the hair in, so it's not really secured by anything except the rubber scalp, which (supposedly) closes over the rooting holes somewhat to hold it in place.

Have you considered painting the hair? It'll take away the "playability" of the hair--you daughter won't be able to style it or anything because it'll be rigid--but it's the easiest and cheapest way for you to go. Plus, you can vary the hair shade as you like and also the hair style.

I did the coloring with a sharpie. I read this on a custom site and it didn't work. Plus she wants light pink and the coloring only made it orange. I can wash out the color since it doesn't adhere to the synthetic fibers very well.

Looks like a re-rooting is in order to get the right color plus she wants it very long.

I was acutally suggesting painting the hair...with PAINT. You will have full control of the color that way. However, the hair will be "crunchy", like the Barbie X-Files Scully hair and others, as an example. Mattel puts a shellack/glue onto their hair to hold it in place. So....it can't be combed or anything. It's like a permanent hairspray. If you daughter doesn't mind that she can't play with the hair, that's definitely, IMO, the way to go. Easy and cheap.

Regarding rerooting, It's not hard to do, and the tools are easy to find. You can look on the web for "doll rooting tool". Here's one on ebay now:

It's easy to find the color hair you want or even blonde hair with slight pink shade.

The hard part is that it's tedious and takes a long time. However, depending upon the hair style you want, you may not have to root each and every hole in the head. The easy thing about RErooting vs. rooting is that the holes are already there for you! The little tool lets you essentially "thread" the hair onto it and then you sort of force it into the inside of the head.

If you want to try rooting/rerooting, I suggest you get a trashed doll head and try it. You'll find it's not difficult; it just takes time.

I've done this, On Both Rubber & Resin Heads. It is not very fun. Very time consuming for sure too. You can't do it all in one Setting,.. you will go nuts. Imo, with the link Bolt provided, 35 Bucks plus shipping is quite Cheep for the pain though.

I echo BK's comments. I find that if I try to do too much rooting at one sitting, I tend to start using too large a hair plug and the results aren't as good. Several strands at once gives a better look and makes the hair more flexible afterward. I agree: $35 is a steal if someone will root a head for you, even if you have to supply the hair.

Thanks to all of you for your info and input.

K, I'm going the rerooting since the paint scenario is too messy and cumbersome for my daughter since she will play with the doll. The next generation of Mego fans even if it's custom.
