    Rit Dye discovery

Ok, have you ever been certain of something only to find out you were wrong? I swear that years ago I tried to dye some lycra and the fabric did not take the dye. Recently I was trying to dye some CTVT body suits. They were not taking the dye the way I wanted. So I figured I could possibly get some of the lycra I had that was close to the same color to darken enough to work. Then it happened. The lycra took the dye perfectly! So I was able to make a body suit in white and dye it to the color I wanted. I am so happy!!

Could it be that Rit has improved their formula to work better on fabrics such as Lycra? In the past. I tried dying some CTVT white b-suits blue for Fan-4 customs. They came out grey!

I have had major issues with Rite lately. I knew the EPA forced changes in dishwasher liquid and thought they screwed with dye also. The CTVT white COTTON bodysuits barely hold dye. Every color comes out veryyyyyyyyyyyy light. I hate it.

Rit does not work as well on PVC now.

Are you using full strength or diluted with water?

Me? I did it full strength after I heated up the object I wanted to dye. It used to work great for me, new bottle, not so much.

Now that I found that I can dye my fabric, I have a new problem, I get white spots, and blotches. Any tips on how to eliminate the spots? I tried washing the fabric first, which helps, but I still get them.

Whenever you have the time, can you please post some instructions/steps on how it came out successfully? That way many others can benefit from your experiences with dyeing fabric. Thanks in advance!
