    Sculpting Angst

Hey all... I'm waiting for new molds to cure and taking a break from the bench for a sec... today is a little bit better, and I was able to finish what was dogging me yesterday, but oh MAN! Yesterday was the most frustrating sculpt day I've had in a long time.

It seemed like I couldn't get my head to work in 3D spatial mode for more than 30 seconds at a time, and every third or fourth action with a dental pick or tool completely negated some of the work I'd managed to get done (it was pretty fine detail work, so it was especially frustrating). After two hours I'd packed it in and gone on to something else.

Anyone else suffer that? What do you guys do? I usually end up on social media or hit the park to clear the head, but that's kind of mixed results and was totally useless yesterday...

While I don't sculpt or even paint worth a flip, my writing does the same thing. As of late its been really banged around. I try to just walk away and catch my breath so to speak. Normally though, the way its been lately I've had to completely shut down for the day and pick up fresh the next morning.

Thankfully, this process still has the magical Edgar Caycee properties for me because I come back more inspired and in many cases. That for em is what keeps hope alive.

It happens no matter what media you work in - sculpting, writing, or in my case, illustration and graphic design. The ideas or the skills just don't seem to flow for some reason. You get those days where no matter what you do, it doesn't work right or you wind up screwing something up.

Best advice, and this is from my own experience, is to just walk away from it for a bit. Take the day off, do something else to stimulate your creativity (read, watch TV, take a walk, etc.), or just veg out and try again tomorrow. Usually you'll be refreshed, and/or you'll come up with a new approach or two to take when you return to your project.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

        Hmmmm....

Loud, angry, hatefilled music. Might I suggest:
