    Snaps? Buttons?

Anyone know what the snaps/buttons on back of original Mego outfits are called and if there is a source for replacements (ie. AC Moore, Michaels)?

    Hmmmm....

I can't think of the name, but they're pretty easy to find. Any sewing store will have them, as well as many craft shops.

Snaps can be fiddly to do, try super thin Velcro instead.

You kinda answered your own question - snap fasteners.

I would try a fabric stores like JoAnn's first. I found some at Michael's but they only had one size, 9mm, which is a bit larger than the one's on Mego's and most other doll clothing. Probably need 6mm or 7mm ones. They do sell packs with different sizes online.

Yep, I went to local Joann's and Michael's are easy to finding materials for my custom/repro/restore Megos but not that size 9mm. Good to finding the right 6 or 7mm ones on the Websites. Also at the Hobby Lobby craft store never have them and the right vinyl materials, the most have mixed color and shapes is no good........ have to keep finding the right materials and 7-6mm snaps online for my customs.

I'd also try a fabric shop. Hancock Fabrics is a favorite of mine.

Thanks everyone! I knew I kinda answered my own question…*BUT… I was looking to see if any members knew the size of snap (9mm, 7mm, whatever) used on Mego outfits AND if there were sources in the "real world" (like Michaels). Velcro was an idea I hadn't even thought of!

Snaps have little number designations like 0/0 or 0/2 - 0/0 is the closest in
                    size to vintage mego snaps.

I now shy away from those multiple size packs. I don't use the larger ones and are a waste.
If you go to Joannes, look for #3. Those are the closest in size and are what I use when Mego size counts.

Thanks Doc Mego & Theressa! Those sizes (0/0 & #3) are exactly what I (and most likely others here) needed to know. That info is greatly appreciated!
