You can just get a good bite with your teeth and yank, that 35 year old rubber head ripes easily away from that pastic body
Actually they come off pretty easy just by twisting and turning at aslight angle , pop it should come off.Getting it back on sometimes requires a bread knife or the like. -
That's depending upon the width of the neck plug.
For the slightly wider neck plugs, either use a VERY blunt knife or the bottom of a crochet hook to tuck it in.
If the head is made of a very firm rubber, then soften it up in hot water first, then start smooshing it in once it's gotten to a squishy consistency.
Or, if you don't want it to get wet, use a hair dryer on high heat. Zap it for maybe two or three minutes, then smoosh away.JediJaidaComment

I use the twist and pull method to start. If it looks like i can, then i continue carefully. To put them back on i use the hairdryer to soften up the rubber. I am careful not to hold the dryer on the rubber for too long or it will melt. It takes about 20 seconds on high or if your more comfortable using it on low a bit longer. It goes in pretty easily.Comment

Get a microwave safe bowl
Fill it 3/4 with water
Microwave the water until it gets very hot (like coffee hot)
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET SCOLDED
Hold the head in your hands and just dip the torso in the water
Leave it there for like 20 seconds
Take it out of the water and try to pull the head off
Being in the water will help soften the plastic for a few seconds
If it wont come off, try again.
If you're under 10 have your mom do it for you.

I'm surprised no one has said - Very Carefully.
Actually, I use the twist and pull at an angle method.Comment

I use a small standard screwdriver through the shoulder socket to compress the plug while lightly pulling the head up. If needed, I use a hairdryer to warm the head.Comment
