    Batman

    So....

Is it a weird tradition, or subliminal right of passage that EVERY Mego customizer HAS to do a Batman at some point? Even I made one, and I'm not really a fan.

    What's up with that?

I remember when I was a kid, I use to pretend my Mego Bruce Wayne was held hostage so I would put my RC Batman cowl on either my Shazam or Superman and let them play the role. I think Batman has always been a character people have loved to see in so many different incarnations. Great observation.

There are just so many variations and creativity that can be brougt to the character and his cast that its irresistable to most.

He's probably the Most Popular Iconic Comicbook Character thats really ever been created .

What seperates Batman I think from other Characters that perhaps have somewhat what could be viewed as popular , is the Artists Interpretations That he has had over the Many Years.

When an Artist attacks The Batman ...., So many people have drawn Him in thier own respectful versions , and with a Character like Batman ... it just all works and brings more mystique to the character.

I think of Artists like Kane, Sprang, Infantino, Ross, Adams, LEE, Breyfogle, Aparo, Perez and Lopez...., That all pretty much offer Timeless representations of the Character with similar Atributes, however the Idea is still there. And then the real off the wall interpretations of the character for Artists like Magnolia, Pope, Jones and Bermejo .... But it all works.

I don't think any 1 character in the History of Comics has had more looks and Interpretations , and yet all versions of the Character still Are Able to Represent 1 of the Best, if not best Comicbook characters ever created.

I don't think you can Say this about Any Other Character out there.
Spider-man has had some different looks , and Artist Takes, But I feel most of those are so Extreme, that they are not in favor with True Fans of the Character.

With so Many Interpretations of Batman in The Comics, Movies and Cartoons That Work , As well as Well Written Else World What If Adventures .I could see why There's so many Customs of him as Well. Hell ..., I think I've alone made about 8 Different versions..., not counting Kit bashes.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I must be really slow cause I have yet to make a Batman custom. He's not even on my radar. I think I have yet to come up with something new that hasn't been done by smarter and more talented artists than myself. One day...

I have 3 Batmen in Mego style. 1 is the classic Mego batman (Molded cowl) When I started putting my collection together. He was my must have and luckily easiest to find. Mext was my custom. A black and grey color scheme with the standard repro yellow belt and head with piontier ears and beavier neck. And lastly the Mattel one with removable cowl.
Like I mentioned about my first Batman. Everyone had Mego Batman. and that was why I believe it was easy to find one for me. (Also a reason I think that many choose him as a basis for customizing.)And like BK noted. There are so many incarnations of Bats that the well will never go dry. And if none of the present versions of Batman appeal to you, You are free to create your own and nobody would object. Unlike other heroes who are defined by there powers and costume. Batman could probably do a several month run in his book Sans-Batsuit and readers would still love the comic. The charactors so versitile that they could get away with it.
Check out my picture library of Mego-ish compatible vehicles with ID data.

I think everyone has at least one Batman that they love and identify with and for customisers want to have. my Favs are 1939 Batman, Dick Sprang smiling Batman, Adam West Tv Batman , Gotham by Gaslight Batman which I'm dying to do a custom of and Sandy Collora's Batman Dead End which was the first Batman custom I did......

                        Unmutual! Unmutual!

                        >He's not even on my radar.

I wouldn't think he'd be on mine, either.... but a while back I was wondering about touching up my Mego one. He's missing a lot of stuff, so I was gonna make custom bits.... then I repainted the head like the TV one.... cuffs and coloured hands for gloves.... and now he's a custom. It just sort of happened. But it seems like every other customizer has done one too. (Although theirs are by design.)

Weird.... Are there any OTHER projects a customizer "has" to do? (I would think Supercity, but so far it seems like I'm one of the few.)

The only way i am customizing a Batman is to try a get a Emblem to make a Golden Age Version.
