I'm playing around seeing if I can make Super Powers-ish Mego costumes. Here's my attempt at Lex Luthor's get-up.
The bottom version is for those people who would want to make their own chestplate armor...maybe out of craft foam?
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I am in communication with megowgsh to see if he might be able to use some of my designs. I sent him my Tattooed Man (lol) we'll see if it's 'useable.'
Kewl stuff! I'm not sure if this would work for you or not - but if you have a color printer, or access to one over at Kinko's you could try printing it on iron-on transfer paper. Be sure to reverse the image before you print it ("Flip Horizontal" or whatever your imaging app's similar command is) since basically you're laying down a reversed image onto the cloth.
I've never done anything that big - just little insignias and stuff - but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
The paper comes with better instructions than I can give, but I think white 100% cotton works best for keeping the colors.
What I do is iron the paper directly onto the fabric in place with the iron at half setting, just so it sticks. Then, crank the iron up as hot as it'll go, lay a t-shirt or something on top of the paper to keep it from bursting into flames (I guess - they never explicitly say what terrible thing will happen if you don't cover the paper) and then iron it on. After it cools a bit the paper comes right off the fabric.
I guess the only thing I'd wonder about is that the fabric with the transfer on it will be stiffer than without, and maybe harder to sew than before.
Worth a shot. If it doesn't work, you're just out the few bucks you spent on the transfer paper.
