    ANSA Astronaut Brent

Long time listener, 3rd time caller. In other words, I'm new here.

But I sent over pictures of this quick n' dirty (literally) custom of Brent from "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" over to Jessica (to whose Ape customs I bow down in humbled awe) to show her the Hasbro ANSA backpack in action, but thought someone else may be interested in seeing this.

What you're looking at is something I pretty much slapped together in a day or two. You'll recognize the head as Little John from Robin Hood (gotta admire the lengths that man will go to in order to get away from his wife). I need to work on his beard and mustache so it looks less, uh, whatever the opposite of "unkempt" is - "kempt" I guess - to give him that "been in sleep stasis for a thousand years" look.

The uniform is a CTVT "Fearless Fonzarelli" stunt motorcycle suit. The boots (which these pictures don't show) are their white "Space" boots. I also got a pair of their white combat boots, but they're super extra tight. I may need to go grab some baby powder to get them on him.

I took the Fonzie collar down (bent it in half and fabric glued it down), and removed the black sleeve stripes and pockets and took the hem up so it's more of the "Ike Coat" length of the ASNA astronauts. I removed the velcro on the front, and took the fabric out at the top so it's more kinda diagonal like in the movie uniforms. It's not *as* diagonal as I'd like, but you work with what you got and it's, uh, "Mego Accurate" enough I suppose.

The backpack came with the Hasbro Signature Series 6" Taylor figure.

The patches & zippers are from the decals here on the site, printed on iron-on paper and, well, ironed on. I made the ANSA logo a bit smaller.

I need to clean him up a bit (if my pictures didn't suck you'd still be able to see the pencil marks I made for where the patches go), but for now I'll just say that's "Forbidden Zone" dirt you see on him.

I made up the Ansa decals for Taylor but I see you converted them to Brent very well. You. Just in case you want to repeat the process for Taylor, DaveMC has 2 fabulous Taylor heads, one bearded one clean shaven that you can get. They worked great for my Taylor (I did both heads but settled on the clean shaven).

Thanks! I wasn't sure who to credit for those great decals. You'll notice I used your zippers on the pants too.

I think a shaved Taylor would be a great next project for me. I can sit him on my desk at work, kicking back with his cigar. My subtle way of telling my coworkers "I can't help thinking that somewhere in the universe there has to be something better than you people. Has to be." j/k - they're all cool.

I went with the Little John as Brent because when I was a kid (cue harp music) I got a Star Trek Enterprise playset and he was in the transporter. I think it was a store display and the people at the store had put him in there and forgot about him when they packed it up to sell. I didn't know about the Robin Hood figures, and had no idea who he was. He was too scruffy to be Star Fleet, but he had a passing James Franciscusness to him, so naturally he became my Brent, and has been all this time. Took a while, but I'm sure he's glad to finally be out of the loincloth.

I've got some more ape customs I'll post up here in my vast amounts of free time (yeah right).

I gotta say, I really admire the work all of you do. I realize it's a fine line you customizers walk between wanting to go for full 100% detailed down-to-the-millimeter accuracy vs. respecting the original material and source and wanting to go with how Mego would have done that figure (WWMD) if they had, ensuring playability. In other words, is it going to be a statue or a toy? It's an art regardless.

I'm not sure if I'm making sense. But I thank you all for the welcome and your kind words.

Judson's, when I get around to making an ANSA uniform, I'll be calling on you. I like the ANSA patch you used and I'll need your help with that. I really like how the outfit side-zips in the front, and the shortened jacket really rocks.

Great job on the suit. I would not have recognized it as a CTVT Fearless Fonzie outfit. And welcome to the museum!!

I really like this outfit of your's... Great job... (And I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thought/thinks Little John would make a passable Brent, I have one dressed in a loin cloth right now...)
