    Stitch Witchery

Can one of you super sewing experts explain this product to me? The way I understand it, if you put it between two pieces of fabric and then iron it, it seals the 2 pieces together - good for hems and seams. I get that part. My question is can it be used to repair a tear? This is not for a toy related project. But I have a piece of fabric with a tear in it. I don't want to create a seam repairing it. Ideally what I'd like to do is use this stuff behind the tear as if I was scotch taping both sides and heating it and sealing it from behind. Will this work with just the stich witchery or do I need to apply some sort of patch material behind it? If anyone has any experience with this stuff, let me know. Thanks.

It's heat activated adhesive on both sides of a strip of material. It's like the old iron on patches that were popular on jeans in the 70's but both sides to hold the fold closed. You should be able to find a iron patch that's one sided but the same concept at JoAnns or any fabric store. That way you won't have an unapplied sticky side on the back.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

It's not really good for a tear. It wouldn't be strong enough.

But it sounds like there will be material behind the material that has the tear? If so it might work depending on how much stress is on it. Plus the two parts now will be glued together.

There's something called 'iron on mending tape' which comes in many colors/materials. It should be on the same wall as th stitch witchery. It's a patch with glue on one side and would work best to keep a seal.

Walmart has a nylon version that peels off with a sticky back that presses in place.
