Yeah, they're pretty solid so I don't think dye will take. Although you could probably paint one pretty well. Except the vinyl head. Which shouild take dye. But you'd have a helluva time matching the colours....
I have dyed hard plastic and used normal clothing dye. It does take a little longer to soak in but it does work. I use RIT LIQUID DYE and I only use the all purpose concentrated type, bellow is the steps I use.
1: Wash the area you want to dye in warm soapy water to get rid of any reisdue and then wipe and let dry over night.
2: Get the dye you want and use an old metal saucepan and pour enough into the saucepan so when you add the parts they are completely covered. Do not add any water at all becuase if you dilute the dye it won't work
3: let the part soak in the dye over night and in the morning pull it out. If the colour is to light keep doing it till it's the darkness you like.
