Wife refuses to co-operate with my custom idea.

I asked my wife to let me cast her upper body and make a fiberglass positive for a Planet of the Apes Mego set up.

She argues that the Statue of Liberty was not naked. I can't seem to make her understand I will sculpt that on after.

I did not tell her the ONLY problem I see is I'd need a couple of FX guys to spot me. Help with the alginate etc.
I didnt even get the chance to mention that part.

Lesson learned:
Just because you know HOW to do something doesnt mean you SHOULD do it.
( Or even ask sometimes.)

I would hire a professional model. As a portrait and figure painter and sculptor I have had great success with opening an account on modelmayhem.com and once approved I pm'ed several models in my area (Atlanta) that fit the body type I was looking for in a model. I now have a fantastic model who is an absolute pleasure to work with. She models both clothed and nude. She is half Greek and half German and just a beautiful petite but proportionally perfect model for my museum type nude bronze sculptures. Thankfully though I have a very understanding wife who knows me and trusts me so there's no issues there. If your wife is cool about it that's what I'd do....besides if you have to have help it's not like you'd be alone with a nude model in the event that your wife is of the jealous persuasion. Now there's an alternative to a live nude woman in your studio that's not you're wife. It shouldn't make your wife jealous plus if you are an artist it could make for an interesting tax write off....I could see you trying to explain this one to your CPA......"what's this $5000 for a model expenditure Mr. Smith?"

Maybe you could get a styrafoam head and shoulders cheaper and sculpt over it? Don't they sell those to display wigs? Would be lighter too.

I HAD hoped she would be flattered. I think she has a wonderful figure. I wanted to make it as a tribute. ( but the inside would be a Mutant stronghold WITH the Omega bomb . . .think Marx Navarone playset)


I helped a FX guy do a body cast of an exotic dancer once. It was really easy beacuse she had silicone implants and the usual problem when molding a curvy woman was avoided.
